Outdoor Channel Scouting for Adventure Series
These are exciting times to
be involved in the Boy Scouts of America. That goes for our Scouts and Scouters
as well. Boys' Life has been working with the Outdoor Channel to develop a
primetime television show about Scouting. The first episode will air on Wednesday,
August 13, at 6:30 p.m.

Criminal Background Check Update
Recently the Boy Scouts of America began a process to obtain authorization for criminal background checks from volunteers who have continuosly served in the same position. In 2003 background checks were required for all new volunteers. Background checks were not performed on volunteers who did change positions in 2003. Each of these volunteers is now required to submit for a background check.
Letters were sent in early June to volunteers requesting that they visit the new volunteer authorization Web site and log in and accept the background check authorization. This Web site will be open from June 1 to August 1. Volunteers who give authorization will recieve the background check and need to do nothing more. Volunteers who did not give authorization or who took no action are required to submit a new adult application when it is time to renew thier registration.
To protect our youth members, those volunteers who did not have the background check will have thier registration expired.
Units that use Internet Rechartering for online renewel will need to enter these adults, if they are to be registered, as new adults and submit the volunteer application to the council along with thier renewal.Units that renew using the paper applicationmust submit the volunteer application for these adults and include them with thier charter renewal paperwork.
Back ground checks will be conducted on all new volunteers. This summer, a new application will be introduced to replace previous versions of the BSA adult application. This form will include a new authorization and discloser statement. Units should use these new application only. Units may obtain these application from the council service center.
